Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
The VITA Program offers FREE tax help to low income (under $37,263) people by helping prepare their tax returns. Volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns. VITA sites are located throughout the community. Most locations also offer FREE electronic filing. Items participants need to bring to the VITA site to have their tax returns prepared.
Photo identification
Social Security Cards for themselves, their spouse, and dependents
Birth dates for primary and secondary dependents on the tax return
Current year's tax package if one was received
Wage and earnings statements Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers
Interest and dividend statements from banks, Forms 1099
A copy of last year's Federal and State returns, if available
Bank Routing Numbers and Accounts Number for Direct Deposit
Numbers for Direct Deposit
Other relevant information about income and expense: total paid for Day Care, Day Care providers identifying number
To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign required forms
